Kaduna: Bandits abduct nine, demands N50 million

Suspected armed bandits have abducted nine people from Dangilmi village under Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Newsmen gathered that the incident happened around 5: 30-‎6 pm closed to Jakaranda which is about 500 meters away from bethel Baptist School where bandits abducted 121 students on 5 July 2021.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna Chapter Chairman, Reverend John Hayab, who confirmed the incident said the bandits called demanding N50 million‎ as ransom.

‎It was gathered that the abduction was done despite Telecoms shutdown in the area and parts of the state.

” They were abducted closed to Jakaranda and the bandits are demanding N50 million. Yesterday (Friday) I got calls from the villagers and even their leaders and I told them what can we do in such a situation.

“So today (Saturday) I had to call the leaders of our churches and the school management not have anything to do with that premises for now. This is because we will look stupid if the bandits return to the area and abduct someone,” he said.

Asiwaju Tinubu: President Buhari is an exceptional leader

President Muhammadu Buhari played host to Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Aso Rock on Sunday.

Both men held a closed-door meeting.

At the end of the meeting, Tinubu said he was at the presidential villa to thank the president for visiting him in London where he sought medical treatment.

I came to thank President Muhammadu Buhari for visiting me in London when I had knee surgery. He demonstrated empathy. He is an exceptional leader,” he said.

Newsmen had reported how Buhari visited Tinubu in London in August.

Bandits’ siege to Abuja

IT was only a matter of time before the terrorists which the Federal Government refers to as “Bandits” would descend on Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

In the last couple of years, they have made states such as Kaduna, Niger, Zamfara, Katsina, Kebbi and Sokoto their playgrounds, killing, kidnapping people and abducting school children.

The federal administration has obstinately ignored calls for them to be declared as terrorists and dealt with accordingly.

Emboldened, they have shot down a fighter aircraft, invaded the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA, in Kaduna killing and abducting officers. They have also attacked the Abuja-Kaduna train service and bombed the rail line.

Over three weeks ago, a National Assembly Correspondent of Vanguard Newspapers, Torque Salem, went missing and is yet to be rescued. Nobody even knows what happened to him or if he is still alive. The invasion of the University of Abuja, UniAbuja, Giri in Gwagwalada Area Council of Abuja a week ago, where six persons (including two professors) were abducted was yet another step taken by the “Bandits” to assert their mounting siege to Abuja.

Abuja is rapidly losing its reputation as a safe city where political leaders and the elite of areas overwhelmed by security challenges in the North come to hide for safety. The Capital City appears to be returning to the grim situation between 2012 and 2014 when terrorists freely carried out suicide bombings and nurtured their cells in its various parts.

The relative safety of Abuja has been one of the bragging points of the supporters of the Buhari regime. With the infiltration of the city by terrorists masquerading as “Bandits” we may be witnessing a security threat worse than the situation before 2015.

It is much easier for a suicide bomber to sneak in and carry out the dastardly act than for a band of criminals to carry out mass abductions of innocent citizens.

Abduction requires much more time and serious gun battle to succeed. For gunmen to spend up to an hour to snatch people from their homes in UNIABUJA amidst sporadic shooting simply means that the security architecture in the city has gone to sleep.

Security agents kill many bandits in Kaduna operation

Several bandits were reportedly killed when security forces launched air raids on bandits’ hideouts in some parts of Kaduna.

Reports said several bandits were eliminated, and camps destroyed, during clearance operations in Igabi and Chikun local government areas, Kaduna State.

The State’s Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan made this known in a statement on Friday.

Aruwan said, according to the reports, clearance operations were conducted in Faka, Katuka, Barebari and Maguzawa general areas, spanning Chikun and Igabi LGAs. An unconfirmed number of bandits were sighted on the high ground across the Maguzawa River; they were engaged by a NAF attack helicopter, and neutralized.

Furthermore, the security forces conducted clearance patrols to Katuka, about 9km from Kangon Kadi in Chikun LGA. During the destruction of camps, one fleeing bandit was apprehended, with the following items recovered: One Motorcycle, One AK-47 rifle and 30 rounds of ammunition.

“During a subsequent clearance operation to Kangon Kadi and Barebari areas, one Rabi Hajiya Karime, the wife of a notorious bandit Zubairu, was apprehended. Also arrested were Malam Idris Audu – a spiritual leader to the bandits – as well as Abdulrasheed Gambo Na Halima and Abubakar Idris Na Halima, suspected collaborators.

Similarly, some items used by bandits were recovered after dislodging and razing some bandit camps in Udawa general area of Chikun LGA. They include some motorcycles, one AK47 rifle, some AK47 magazines, ammunition and drugs, as may be seen in the attached pictures.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai expressed satisfaction at these reports, and commended the security forces for the successful operation. He thanked the troops for their relentless efforts, and urged security agencies to ensure thorough investigations on the persons apprehended.

Ondo residents return to firewood, charcoal as cooking gas price

This follows the hike in prices of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), also known as cooking gas.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that cooking gas which has been embraced by a larger percentage of Nigerians rose from its former price of N400 and N500 to between N650 and N700 per kilogramme.

NAN also learnt that the hike in price of the product led to high patronage of firewood and charcoal which costs N100 and N200 respectively and equivalent to one Kilogramme of cooking gas.

Some of the residents in separate interviews with NAN on Thursday in Okitipupa lamented the hike in prices of cooking gas, forcing them to resort to buying firewood and charcoal for cooking.
